Gemälde, Skulpturen und architektonische Entwürfe, etwa von hypermodern anmutenden Flugplätzen: Der belgische Maler, Bildhauer und Architekt Georges Vantongerloo (1886-1965) gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der abstrakten Kunst in Europa. Mit Piet Mondrian und anderen gründete er die Künstlergruppe De Stijl, wich aber von deren rigiden Konzepten wieder ab und schuf in der Folge ein vielschichtiges, visionäres Werk, das in den Sammlungen des MoMA, der Tate Modern und im Guggenheim Museum New York vertreten ist. Diese erste Monografie über Vantongerloo in deutscher Sprache zeigt über 130 der wichtigsten Werke in Farbe. Essays beleuchten Leben und Werk. Darüber hinaus werden Vantongerloos Umfeld, Freundschaften und künstlerische Verwandtschaften erläutert, etwa mit Piet Mondrian oder mit Max Bill, dem Vantongerloo seinen Nachlass vermachte. Das Buch erschien zu Ausstellungen im Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, und im Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
