This lavishly illustrated catalogue accompanied the exhibitions: "Van Gogh &amp; Japan", Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, 23 March - 24 June 2018, previously at Hokkaidō Museum of Modern Art (Sapporo), Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and National Museum of Art (Kyoto). This paperback catalogue was available exclusively at Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and is no longer in print and can considered a collectable item. Van Gogh never went to Japan. He created his own image of the country thanks to the Japanese prints he eagerly collected and closely studied. The colourful and exotic images greatly inspired him. Van Gogh started to copy Japanese prints to better understand them. Doing so, he developed a 'Japanese eye' that would give his work a new direction. What was this Japanese way of looking? This is what the exhibition Van Gogh &amp; Japan was about. The list of essays included in the book:
