This catalogue accompanies the first large-scale solo U.S. exhibition of the work of Brussels–based artist Jimmy Robert (born 1975). One of Europe’s most dynamic younger artists, Robert works in a range of media, including photography, sculptural objects, film, video and collaborative performances. What unites these different threads is a concern for the body and a guiding interest in the poetic potential of ephemeral materials such as paper and tape. Creating form through gesture, Robert draws inspiration from such artists as Yvonne Rainer and Yoko Ono. His exploration of folding bodies, crumpling paper and filmed repetitive gestures has come to define him as an artist of touching: the act of tearing tape from skin, a hand stroking hair, fingers rubbing a text. Jimmy Robert includes multiple paper stocks and sizes, is spiral-bound and features the artist’s newest work.

This retrospective volume celebrates five decades of Howardena Pindell's art, including works on paper, collage, photography, film, and video. Born in middle-class Philadelphia in the 1940s, Howardena Pindell came of age during the Civil Rights movement. As an African-American woman artist, making her way in the world provided Pindell with source material to inspire her work. This book examines every facet of Pindell's impressive career to date. Since the 1960s, she has used materials such as glitter, talcum powder, and perfume to stretch the boundaries of traditional canvas painting. She has also infused her work with traces of her labor, such as obsessively affixing dots of pigment and circles made with an ordinary hole punch tool. After a car crash in 1979 left her with short-term amnesia, Pindell's work looked beyond the painting studio to explore a wide range of subjects, including the personal and diaristic as well as the social and political. This monograph also highlights Pindell's work with photography, film, and performance. Excerpts from the artist's writing, in particular her critique of the art world and her responses to feminism and racial politics, provide prescient commentary in light of conversations around equality and inclusion today. The Best of Keren Cytter/The Worst of Keren Cytter is the first comprehensive publication of the video screenplays written by Keren Cytter (born 1977). Cytter has been widely heralded for her video work, which challenges conventions of narrative cinema through its pared-down style, deliberately kitschy effects, knowing manipulation of familiar genres and fractured storylines. For her exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the artist invited the exhibition's two curators, Jacob Fabricius and Naomi Beckwith, to read and categorize transcripts of the entire body of her video work. The curators then debated the merits of every screenplay, dividing them into the "best" or "worst" of Cytter's work. This two-volume publication anthologizes all of Cytter's screenplays and includes short essays by the two curators.
