Herbert Asher is a Professor of Political Sciences a the Ohio State University and also serves as special assistant for governmental relations to the university president. The volume analyses the presidential elections in the United States from 1952 to the present from two perspectives: on one hand from the aspects of the citizen, who has to choose from the contestants, on the other hand from the viewpoint of the candidate, who hopes for election (or reelection) from the electorate. The volume is divided into two main parts: in the first part the author dwells on those factors which heavily influence the strategic selection of candidates. The volume is abundantly illustrated by various tables and statistics in order to support the argumentation.
