Scare stories about an independent Scotland having no jobs, no hospitals, no money, no defence capabilities and no way to pay for any kind of welfare screamed at us from our television screens and from every newspaper. Old people were told they would have no pensions and no medical care while there would be no schools for our children. There would be no money, in fact, to pay for anything. Within a decade life in an independent Scotland would be like a Mad Max film. As if that were not bad enough we would also be living under a one-party, fascist state. This was where the smear tactics came in. Alex Salmond was a crazed, power-hungry megalomaniac, while the SNP was nothing more than a latter-day version of the Nazis. The party even had its own version of the SA, the 'Cybernats', who were part of a concerted campaign of intimidation. NO supporters were targeted for abuse and worse, while English people in Scotland were being driven from their homes in an organised effort at ethnic cleansing. Here is the truth about the Better Together campaign. Mistruths, half-truths, disinformation, suppression of the facts and calumny; in fact, anything and everything was done to undermine the case for Scottish independence. Tories, Liberals and Labour all conspired against the independence campaign. There were secret meetings, coalitions in councils, plans to hijack anniversary celebrations and, ultimately, even flouting election rules. Nothing was sacred in the drive to stop Scottish independence happening; even the Queen conspired with politicians in secret. This book lays bare the whole story of this negative campaign. When you read it, and realise just how far the Unionists went, it is surprising that anyone voted for independence at all!

The election of 56 SNP MPs to Westminster, out of a possible 59, and the SNP majority at Holyrood frightened the wits out of the Scottish and UK Establishments. It seemed as if, despite the Referendum result, Scottish independence was still very much a live topic and a distinct possibility. Rather than take the risk of another referendum, which this time might result in a YES vote, everything possible was done to forestall it. This, of course, involved discrediting the SNP. Such a tactic had paid dividends in the Referendum, after all. And so, our elective representatives, both at Holyrood and at Westminster, were undermined constantly. Everything the SNP did was criticised, while our MPs and MSPs were smeared and vilified. Not that the Establishment needed to sully its hands; the Labour Party and the media were more than happy to do the job for it.

With a new manager in place, the mighty Mark Warburton, The People were confident that, this time, their team was going to make it into the Premiership. Just to make sure, the media joined in to play mind games with Hibs and even, looking ahead to next season, doing the same with Celtic. Meanwhile, there were still court cases to take care of. Mike Ashley hadn't gone away and neither had HMRC. But none of that mattered. They were 'still Rangers' and they were going to 'get back' to their 'rightful place' at the top of Scottish football. The media were building up Warburton and his team as world-beaters, which was setting them up for a fall. Surely, though, they couldn't fail again? The Championship was theirs, as was the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and even the one everyone wanted to win - the Petrofac Cup. The talk was of Quadruples and European glory. Yes, they were 'coming down the road'; just as long as the money held out and nobody asked any awkward questions!
