Plants From The Niger Delta

Whilst there have been earlier attempts at enumerating and characterising plant species generally in this area, they have been by European explorers. This work focuses on the Niger Delta, on which there has been no previous specific work, and the author is himself from the Niger Delta. It is informed by the need to provide practical guidance for environmental and legal practitioners, botanists, conservationists, drug manufacturers and ethnobotanists, for the sustainable development of the fragile eco-system of the Niger Delta; and is presented pictorially, in full colour, to enable use and identify hitherto unknown plants. The floristic composition of the region is a microcosm of that of Nigeria, since material is brought down the rivers Niger and Benue, promulgating plant species in the region. The fossil oil exploration in the area results in destruction of plant and animal species, and the book seeks to preserve information which may otherwise be lost forever. Names of plant species are recorded in accordance with the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.
