A mediados de diciembre de 1907, bajo un sol abrasador, una muchedumbre de obreros pampinos —con mujeres y niños— emprendió una larga caminata desde sus oficinas salitreras hacia Iquique a reclamar por mejores condiciones de vida y de trabajo. En la marcha por el desierto se trabaron amistades, rencillas y amores, pero nadie imaginó lo que les esperaba en la ciudad portuaria. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Under the burning mid-December sun of 1907, a throng of saltpeter miners, women and children, inhabitants of the pampa salitrera set out on the long walk to Iquique –their goal to demand better work and life conditions. Along the way friendships were forged, lovers were found, quarrels fought, but no one could ever have imagined what awaited them once they reached the harbor city.
