Este libro fue inicialmente una serie de notas publicadas en el semanario CGT a mediados de 1968. Su tema superficial es la muerte del simpatico maton y capitalista de juego que se llamo Rosendo Garcia, su tema profundo es el drama del sindicalismo peronista a partir de 1955. En la reconstruccion de los hechos, Rodolfo Walsh conto con la ayuda de quienes sobrevivieron al tiroteo de la confiteria Real de Avellaneda en el que murio Garcia: Francisco Alonso, Nicolas Granato, Raimundo y Rolando Villaflor y la de su abogado defensor, Norberto Liffschitz. No hay, pues, una linea de esta investigacion que no este fundada en testimonios directos o en constancias del expediente judicial. Un breve epilogo especialmente preparado para esta edicion da cuenta de la suerte corrida por algunos de los protagonistas de esta historia, con posterioridad a los hechos de mayo de 1966.
