En este relato de primera mano sobre el periodo del antes, el durante y el después de la tragedia, el autor describe la confusión, la destrucción y el horror que presenció, al igual que lo mejor y lo peor de la naturaleza humana. Escritas fielmente con un tono sin adornos, las palabras de Hara asumen una hermosura casi poética mientras recuerdan la historia. Es la primera vez que se traduce al castellano esta obra, la cual fue censurada durante años en Japón por su contenido.
