Matthias Koeppel (born 1937) has been a painter since 1961 and holds a professorship in free-style drawing and painting at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University in Berlin. Along with the artist Johannes Gruetzke and others he founded the 'School of New Splendidness' in 1973. Koeppel has received many prizes. His, in general, large-size paintings can, among other places, be found in the Golden Hall of the Berlin-Schoeneberg Town Hall and in the Berlin State Parliament building.
