The Children of Eve

He'd had hope and he'd had love - no matter what the padre said, he'd had love - but they hadn't been enough. Directionless and broke, Mike is taken to the gang-ridden Central American country of Cortes by his friend Lonnie, a modern-day conquistador who has been summoned by his uncle Marco, soldier-turned-Brother, administrator of Lonnie’s inherited fortune, and now head of a mission in a troubled barrio. He has insisted on seeing Lonnie before he releases the next distribution of the inheritance, a meeting Lonnie is wary of, suspecting that Marco has caught wind of his hedonistic ways. They arrive at the mission to discover that Marco is away on a mysterious journey, and are forced to wait there for his return. Lonnie reverts to his libertine ways, dragging along an increasingly reluctant Mike, who is more and more interested in the work of the brothers. He befriends a girl rejected by her parents years ago but now haunted by her abusive father, and vies with Lonnie for the attention of an enchanting woman of the barrio, until a tragic series of events shatters their friendship and leads one of the two men to reject redemption, and the other to approach it. The Children of Eve is a story of violence and mercy, hedonism and sacrifice, revenge and forgiveness. A tale of faith, hope, and love. A story of the value of life in a place where life is cheap.
