The rock pile ebbs into new shapes and sizes as cats cross paths, friends survey the curious space Dietro Casa ("behind the house"), apparitions double-expose across our vision, and a young girl wakes from gentle dreamscape. BOOK 2 Jason Fulford, Clayton's Ascent Shot between 1997 and 2003 while traveling the US by motorcycle, the images and saturated colors in Clayton's Ascent are infused with a veiled foreboding, a blurred line between real and artificial. Deriving its title from a historic 1835 9-hour balloon ride, sights shift from fantastic and tumultuous landscapes, to the top tiers of arenas, and towards the heavens to bid the Earth farewell. BOOK 3 Gregory Halpern, Confederate Moons During a summer marked by a total eclipse of the sun Halpern chose North and South Carolina to capture the fleeting event, not visible across the entire US since 1918. Initially inspired by the eclipse, the work became a meditation of the current state of the nation. "I was fascinated by the idea that the entire nation was staring at the sun, reveling in the apocalyptic thrill of watching the moon temporarily extinguish our life-source, all together." BOOK 4 Viviane Sassen, Heliotrope Sassen investigates new ways of making / altering photos in Heliotrope, shot during recent travels across Africa. "I aim to subvert the way I look at these images, and at the world. Color, graphic shapes, and shadows are tools to revisit, reinterpret and gather a different understanding of the familiar. The ordinary and the magical merge, to explore unknown unknown territories, physical or metaphorical."
