San Miguel del Bado del Rio de Pecos -- The 1803 Land Grantees

San Miguel del Bado was a community land grant, first granted in 1794 and continued to be open to new people up through 1824 and beyond. But this book is only about the first group - those that were willing to go across the mountain, brave the Indian raids and start the process of building the plaza, the church and community. The 1794 grantee list has never been found and every attempt was made to identify each person listed on the 1803 petition and when possible, include one generation of genealogy. In some instances, it was also possible to include an ancestor chart. A decision was made not to re-write volumes of material on San Miguel del Bado, this area is not new to historians or genealogists. This book identifies those first settlers, who they were, their children, thus resulting in a compiled genealogy of the first families. If there is an omission of a name, it was not done with malice, but just overlooked. San Miguel in this time period of 1794-1820 was larger than anyone would expect and families, neighbors and compadres make up this community.
