Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the School of Law's new home has a rich history in its own right. Designed by Solomon Andrew Layton, one of Oklahoma s most celebrated architects, the structure was home to Oklahoma City's first high school. Opening in 1910, it graduated classes of Oklahoma students through 1968 before becoming home to several prominent corporations, including Southwestern Bell Telephone and Oklahoma Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Company, and served as the command center following the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995. With the Oklahoma City University School of Law now calling it home, this historic structure nestled in the downtown of Oklahoma's capital city has returned to educating and preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
About the Author
LEE PEOPLES, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is the Frederick Charles Hicks Professor of Law at Oklahoma City University School of Law and was Interim Dean of the School of Law in 2017-2018. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Library and Information Science, and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He serves as clinical professor for the Norick Municipal Law Research Clinic and teaches Oklahoma Legal Research for Practice. Professor Peoples research and scholarship is focused on the intersection of law and technology, library construction and space planning, and comparative law. He has published articles, books, and book chapters on these topics. He is co-founding editor of the LEGAL INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY JOURNAL and an editorial board member of LEGAL INFORMATION REVIEW. Professor Peoples has served as president of the Mid-America Law Library Consortium and Mid-America Association of Law Libraries. Peoples practiced law in Oklahoma City before joining the faculty. He serves on the board of directors of the Midtown Redevelopment Corporation, the Oklahoma Access to Justice Commission, and is vice-chair of the City of Oklahoma City's Urban Design Commission.. He and his wife, Emma, and daughter, Amelia, live in Oklahoma City. BOB BURKE, born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, has written more historical non-fiction books than anyone else in history. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Oklahoma City University and received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from OCU and a BA in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Burke's 130 books have won many awards, including three Pulitzer Prize nominations. He was Secretary of Commerce in the administration of Governor David Boren and managed Boren's first campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1978. Burke is a member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Historians Hall of Fame. He is father to Robert, Amy, and Cody, stepfather to Natalie, Lauren, and Calli, and grandfather to Nathan, Jon, Ridge, Fallon, Greyson, Mia, Emerson, Sutton, Charlie, and Cameron. He and his wife, Chimene, live in Oklahoma City where he practices law and writes books.
