Composition 1 Invention and Persuasion

Composition 1: Invention and Persuasion gives students the mental tools to think through their writing rationally and produce great writing that allows them to express themselves in their own unique voice. Assignments are designed to help students love writing - rather than dread it - and train them to write well and share their ideas efficiently. Written collaboratively between Veritas Press, God's World News, and WORLD Magazine, examples from real articles and stories from real writers help provide students with solid, quality models of good writing, rather than formulated examples. Plus, each unit offers relevant advice and commentary from published journalists, photojournalists, novelists, and essayists. Students are encouraged to read with attention and care; lessons teach the importance of details and descriptions, as well as the importance of being discerning and looking at writing through the lens of a Christian worldview. Students will learn to read with careful attention, the importance of well-defined subjects and active verbs, what makes a good paragraph, how solid sentences work together to build strong paragraphs, how paragraphs should be organized, and how to link paragraphs into longer compositions. Vibrant chapters include engaging, clearly-written text covering the main principle for the lesson as well as an assignment. Two semester projects are also included. Grades 7-9. 139 chapters.
