A Day Like Today

A Day Like Today concludes the story begun in Greater Love Hath No Man. Thomas cannot bring himself to stay home where he belongs, according to Caroline. Henry and Thomas have reached a truce between themselves over Henry's refusal to become embroiled in the war... they are still brothers. Thomas quickly finds out what a fighter his new bride can be when she rebels against his order to remain safely at home. When a new Watkins family member is expected, however, it causes Thomas no end of frustration: He can't make himself stay home, but he can't stay gone, either. The Bonners, the Davenports, the Carters and a host of new cast members, as well, face the trials and dramas of life in the West Virginia mountains as the Federals continue to try to force the Mountaineers to accept rule under the thumb of the Northern government. The people, as always, make up the history we read about in books. This history is just a tad more personal than other reports of the facts. Many of the events and people in this story are true and existed. Their stories are vivid and clear. And the ending will surprise you.
