"On the sideluine or in the game" speaks to the need of our children for guidance and urges adults to accept the responsibility of raising their children as opposed to letting television shows such as MTV and BET do their job. It touches on issues about game life and how gangs have pulled our children away from families often because the gangs offer more of a family structure than their home life. He believes it really does take a village to raise a child. The author attemps to drive home the point that a college education is not free and that going to college is a previlege, not a right.
