Description:

Vision Statement The purpose of this book to provide current information about today’s Native American population, tribes and reservations. This book is one-third of a three-part package. We also publish a wall map, “Native American Reservations” and the Native American Online portal is a work in progress. Native American FAQ’s is not meant to be a study in anthropology. The subject of Native Americans is so vast, complex and diverse that it would take a lifetime of study to understand the people and their problems. Our hope is that this book will present enough information, direction and reference to motivate the reader to do further study and research in their area of interest. The bibliography lists the addresses and telephone numbers for major reference sources. Libraries, universities and museums contain thousands of voluminous resources that chronicle every aspect of the fascinating epic as two conflicting cultures engaged in a violent and savage struggle for survival. For Native people the struggle continues. Format For this 6th edition of this book, we will use the FAQ’s format. During presentations, my favorite time is the question and answer sessions. The exchange of information and ideas is much more interesting than delivering information. FAQ's may be as close as we can get to that type of exchange in writing. Research Reference Sources Ten years ago, the research for the map and book was compiled from public libraries, museum libraries and agency reports. One of our basic demographic sources was the 1990 Census. We are working closely with Census 2000 on a Regional, State and City level and look forward to the final statistics with great anticipation. However, the final stats will not be available for at least another year as of this printing. Most research reports and lists are no longer available in print. Consequently, most of the revisions and updated information for this printing are excerpted and downloaded from Internet websites. Whenever possible, we have networked by linking to sites than enhance or contain information that we feel is relevant.
