Description:

Written in the Fifth Century, Saint Patrick’s Letters have continued to be a source of inspiration and intrigue for so many people. A reflection of his ideals and faith, previous translations have already uncovered the deep personality at the heart of the Saint, inspiring many with his own words. Historical documents that they are though, scholars have striven to deliver the closest interpretation possible to attain a straight translation of the Letters, as even the smallest updates to perceived prior errors can award new insight into Saint Patrick’s holy message. Including Saint Patrick’s Confession and Letter to King Coroticus, The Letters of Saint Patrick offers a radical new translation of these historical artefacts. Using recent studies that have contested Patrick’s conception and birthplace, as well as a new understanding of the original Latin meaning of “in Britanniis”, Marcus Losack and John Luce have provided the most vital translations to date, accompanied with other historical research that sheds new insight into the always controversial Saint. Building on the foundations of his vital work in the recently published book Rediscovering Saint Patrick - Patrick’s Place of Origins and Royal Family (Amazon 2018), Losack’s latest effort is once again another essential addition to the field of Patrician Studies. Marcus Losack is a graduate in theology from Christ’s College, Cambridge with a Master's Degree in Philosophy from the Irish School of Ecumenics, Trinity College, Dublin. He studied at Salisbury and Wells Theological College (now Sarum College) and worked for some time as an ordained Anglican priest, serving in parishes in Ireland, the U.K., North Africa and Sicily. He now leads Celtic Pilgrimages through Céile Dé, and is available as a conference speaker and retreat leader. John Luce (1920-2011) was former Professor of Classics and Public Orator at Trinity College, Dublin. His books include The End of Atlantis, New Light on an Old Legend (1969), Homer and the Heroic Age (1975), and Celebrating Homer's Landscapes - Troy and Ithaca Revisited (1999).
