Until very recently investing in an early-stage company or project was the purview of the Rich, Famous, and Well Connected. The “average retail investor” was left totally out of the game but technology has changed all that for the better. Where there are great risks there are potentially great rewards, yes, but there are also, well, great risks.
So why do the Rich, Famous, and Well Connected participate in Private Placements to the degree that they do? Why is it that the “average investor” has not been able to participate? How can the “average investor” participate in these opportunities with a small amount of money to invest? How can the “average investor” participate successfully to recoup their initial investment as quickly as possible while still profiting from “Free Shares” as the rich, famous, and well-connected do? This book hopes to shed some light on these questions and more.
This fact, the fact that Private Placements has been the preserve of the rich, famous, and well connected is well known by the people that participate in the system of course. To sum that up I provide a clear example of a very informative document on the subject of Private Placements in a 2019 report titled What is a Private Placement? from PreConstruction Catalysts from Washington DC. The report states:\nObviously, it would not be a good idea to reveal everything regarding this type of trading in this writing, or on any other public conference or forum. This kind of trading can only continue because it is unknown to the public and traditional clients. The professionals in this business must be extremely cautious when it comes to sharing information.
Obviously, the powers that be can’t have this kind of opportunity getting into the hands of “the public and traditional clients” (aka: average retail investors like those from Robin Hood or Reddit is I guess). What would happen if this almost 90-year-old investment secret got into the hands of the great unwashed? Well, I think more people might actually start doing a little research and invest in promising companies with the same investment advantages as the Rich, Famous, and Well Connected. How bad could that be? I mean really, how bad could it be to see more people taking legal advantage of the same investment vehicles those “other people” do? Private Placements hit all the checkboxes for inclusivity, fairness, opportunity, transparency, and a lot of other good things like Warrants that may eventually turn into Free Shares if you do your research and find promising companies to invest in. Sure, you have to have a little money! The companies don’t give away their shares on the open public market exchanges and why should it be any different with Private Placements. I started with, and my first investment was, a total of $1,000.00! And you can too!
Not sharing this information, this investment vehicle, with a much wider audience, is NOT in the best interest of the company’s raising funds for promising projects. They are trying to raise money for these projects, projects that could become industry leaders or long-term commodity generators and employ a lot of people in the process! Certainly getting the word out to a much larger well informed and educated investor group is a good thing for these companies because without these funds many promising projects will never happen. I do not believe these opportunities should be reserved for, nor the preserve of, the Rich, Famous, and Well Connected.
