Walking in the Way — A Devotional Journey Through the Scriptures Jesus Read

Walking in the Way is the second book in a series of Old Testament devotions written to help readers gain exposure to the Old Testament, including some of the more difficult and obscure sections. The first book is entitled Ancient Paths: Light and Life from the Scriptures Jesus Read. This second volume is similar in theme but covers all 39 books from the Old Testament with the goal of whetting the appetite for more.Naturally, you might still be wondering, "Why the Old Testament?" The main reason is that the Old Testament points to Jesus and is only understood in the light of Jesus. Not only is Jesus predicted and promised, but the story of God's people reveals their desperate need for a Savior - and ours! Related to that, the Old Testament is as much the Word of God as the New Testament. The Bible that Jesus and all of the New Testament writers read was the Old Testament. Our understanding of the New Testament is deeper and richer through the study of the Old. Those who set their minds and hearts to read and study the Old Testament have come to love it. We read and study the Old Testament because these books are powerful, relevant and life changing. The title for this devotional book is Walking in the Way, which comes from Isaiah 30:20-21, "And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." When we spend time in God's Word, we learn to hear His voice as He leads us in the way we should go. The Holy Spirit can speak to us without a chapter and verse from Scripture, but we will find that He often reveals His will and His heart to us as we spend time reading and savoring His Word.
