The aim of this book is to help trainees and trainers prepare for the Royal College of General Practitioners' (RCGP) Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA). The guidance and walkthrough videos will help you to gain a better understanding of the approach to physical examination necessary to meet the examination standard. In the CSA, candidates are required to select and perform the physical examination expected of a competent general practitioner within the context of a 10-minute general practice consultation. Translating that standard into practical guidance for an individual case is complex, not least due to the differences in approach that exist amongst trainees, trainers and examiners. This book provides practical guidance by summarising the consensus opinion of 293 GP trainers and 16 CSA examiners for a series of typical CSA scenarios. The findings are presented along with notes and guidance.Dr Boeckx and Dr Marlow are experienced CSA tutors and Fellows of the RCGP and have taught on the CSA since its inception. Both tutor regularly for the RCGP and provide expert teaching on physical examination alongside senior examiners and consultation skills experts.
