Leadership-in-Community: The Missiology, Community & Ethics of Missional Leadership
Description:
Leadership-In-Community is a spiritual formation curriculum designed to provide a theological and practical foundation for Christian leaders committed to the mission of God in a vastly changing world. It engages new or seasoned missional leaders in the foundations of missiology, leadership theory, and leadership practices and tools. The curriculum explores three inter-related themes that build effective missional leadership: the missiology, community, and ethics of missional leadership. These themes are explored through spiritual formation practices based upon Lectio Missio, an expansion of Lectio Divina, including mission-related practices. Using Lectio Missio, small groups of leaders read and study Scripture, pray, dialogue, meditate, journal, and participate in experiential learning. These disciplines of spiritual formation are the basis of missional leadership training and development.\nWhat others say about this book:
In our experience, actual people rarely match up to the way they are perceived by others. However, Lee Carter defies what is typical. Leadership in community beautifully describes the lessons he has taught and modeled for us to follow. This book is grounded in Scripture and perfectly describes the benefit of the ethics and missiology of community leadership. Each chapter provides memorable lessons we are attempting to model to this day in Latin American churches, just as he has done for us in Bible League International.
─ Dr. Rafael Serrano, M.Div, Ph.D
Author, Senior editor, the Palabra de Dios para Todos (Bible League International) and Nueva Traduccion Viviente (Tyndale Publishers)\nIn Leadership-in-Community Lee Carter plugs a hole that has been gaping for too long. In missional circles there has existed a void of material relevant to boots-on-the-ground team leadership that eschews hierarchical authoritarianism and instead adapts the servant posture modeled by Jesus. Drawing on scripture and best global mission practice, Carter provides a clear and practical road map for orienting a team around a biblical framework for understanding leadership. This tool will serve this generation and future generations in providing a much-needed alternative to the majority of leadership pipeline tools that focus on faulty models of leadership.

Evangelist, Author of Church Zero: Raising 1st Century Churches Out of the Ashes of the 21st Century Church, Reaching the Unreached: Becoming Raiders of the Lost Art, and Church Plantology: The Art and Science of Planting Churches\nDr. Carter has developed a spiritual formation curriculum, Leadership-in-Community: The Missiology, Community & Ethics of Missional Leadership, that will not only help one grow closer to Jesus but will expand one’s understanding of the missional nature of God. The power of the curriculum is walking through the eight movements of reflection and study. It will be a powerful study to walk through in a small group setting or with church staff.
