In the summer of 1943, the country of Finland face certain annihilation from Russia, their ageless arch-enemy. The overmatched Finns are doomed and only a miracle can save their race. A telephone conversation in Stockholm, Sweden, between two women, Maja Sandler, the wife of Sweden's Foreign Minister, and Hana Rudh, Director of the philanthropic Bremmer Foundation, creates a plan for neutral Sweden to temporarily adopt Finland's children until the war's end.
