RTI in Action, Grades 3-5: Oral and Written Language Activities for the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) developed RTI in Action, Grades 3-5: Oral and Written Language Activities for the Common Core State Standards because of the strong, reciprocal connection between communication and learning. Effective communication skills are essential for literacy acquisition and learning and are the foundation for the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts and literacy. The activities and instructional strategies in this book demonstrate how the connection between oral and written language can be used to improve student learning. This book focuses on Grades 3-5 and is companion resource to the popular first volume, RTI in Action: Oral Language Activities for K-2 Classrooms.

An increasing number of school districts in the United States have adopted a Response to Intervention (RTI) model to provide support to general education students within the classroom. The majority of states also have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to guide instruction and prepare students for college and careers.

In this book, tiered activities are designed so that the RTI model may be used as a framework for implementing the CCSS. Organized by grades 3, 4, and 5, over 200 classroom-based tiered activities have been developed that correspond to all of the English Language Arts standards that address the four domain areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language.

The accompanying CD features PDFs of all activities in the book for convenient downloading and sharing, a sample PowerPoint for in-service training, and helpful, informative handouts for SLPs, teachers, parents, caregivers, and day care providers.
