John MacArthur's Heresy on the Blood of Christ
Description:
This material concerning Dr. John MacArthur and his heretical views on the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ has been published in its present form at this time for three principle reasons:
(1) The doctrine of the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is of vital importance among the other important doctrines of the Christian Faith. There have been vicious attacks on the Blood of Christ for centuries. Until recently, these attacks have originated from the citadels of the false cults such as Christian Science, and from the apostates within the mainline Protestant denominations.
(2) John MacArthur has been the leader within the neo-evangelical movement in recent years in his heretical attack on the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has claimed to be in the evangelical mainstream in his heresy. He has quoted from an Anglican clergyman by the name of Stibbs as well as others in an attempt to justify his error. His charismatic manner and double-meaning words have been used to deceive thousands of Bible-believing people around the world.
(3) John MacArthur has been a pattern for other neo-evangelicals and even "Fundamentalists" in their espousal of many, if not all, of the parts of his fatal heresy on the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. A partial list of those thus influenced either in whole or in part would include: (1) Dr. Ken Pulliam, a teacher at Dr. James Singleton's school in Tempe, Arizona. Pulliam, along with an M.D. wrote an article on the Blood of Christ which appeared in the Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary Journal in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. This article was endorsed by John MacArthur himself with only one exception. (2) Dr. James Singleton himself, who has backed this article and its teachings and has never publicly repudiated it in whole or in part. (3) Various students from Dr. Singleton's school, such as Air Force Chaplain Michael Sproul. (4) Chaplain Sproul stated that SOME teachers have adopted at least PART of the MacArthur teaching on the Blood of Christ, including SOME teachers from the following schools: (a) Central Baptist Theological Seminary; (b) Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary; (c) Pillsbury Baptist College; (d) Maranatha Baptist Bible College (Watertown, Wisconsin); (e) Dr. Singleton's College in Tempe, Arizona; and (f) Bob Jones University. (5) Undoubtedly some in the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship have been influenced by this teaching due to Dr. James Singleton's strong influence in that FBF. (6) Some in the Independent Baptist Fellowship of North America (IBFNA) have no doubt been influenced by Dr. Singleton. Despite warnings from me as to his views on the Blood of Christ, he was still maintained as the main speaker in their 1995 annual conference and is at present a MEMBER of that group.
However widespread either all or part of John MacArthur's heresy on the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, I believe it is of the utmost importance to analyze his teachings on this theme and to refute them with Scripture. If this virus is permitted to spread even further--and especially among the so-called "Fundamentalists"--where will it end up in the years, decades, and generations to come?!!
