The Dragon Tree

The Wye valley has been home to a forgotten Yew tree for almost a thousand years. It began life as earth's last surviving dragon, but an evil sorcerer and a twist of fate cursed it to live the rest of its existence as a tree, to forever taste simple rainwater from the earth. Its only release would be the blood of an innocent child flowing over its roots. The sorcerer knew the dragon could never harm a child so assumed the curse would remain unbroken, forever. ..... Today, a storm is brewing, blinding rain sweeping up the valley stings the faces of Cody and Shannon. They are late home from adventuring in the valley but need to find shelter. The hollow of a gnarly old tree is the only place available . Cody has injured his hand on an ancient sword found in a cave deep in the valley ... Rainwater flowing off the ends of his fingers in little rivulets mixes with the blood from his cut hand . The deep throaty rumbling in the ground beneath their feet is a sound neither of them have heard before.
