Le Pere Goriot

Honoré de Balzac was one of France's most important writers in the 19th century, thanks to his seminal La Comédie humaine, a hodgepodge collection of stories and novels that depicts French life after the Napoleonic era from a contemporary standpoint. His writing style also influenced writers as varied and widespread as Poe, Dickens, and Dostoyevsky. Le Pere Goriot is one of Balzac's most famous works. The novel tells the stories of several characters set in early 19th century Paris. including the title character, a criminal, and a law student, and it details the difficulties brought about by the Bourbon Restoration in the wake of the Napoleonic era.
