When Alice Bauer joins the army as a nurse during World War II, she little dreams she will become a prisoner of war in Germany and risk her life to save a young Jewish soldier from the Nazis. The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor coincides with her graduation from nursing school. Sent to England, she nurses casualties of the Normandy invasion. She and her hometown friend, Brad Mayfield, a pilot on bombing missions over German territory, steal precious time together in London. Alice survives a hospital flight crash in enemy territory only to be marched off to a POW camp deep inside the Third Reich.
