This ancestral anthology is a collection of accounts of remarkable individuals, be they gentry or plain folk. In this book, these Barnhill and Geraty families-for the first time in print-are traced to the immigrants, and the Geraty group even into their home county in Ireland. Arriving at different times, descendants of these two families lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and points west. More than a tabulation of names and dates, this book traces the early movements of these pioneers while documenting their trials and tribulations in detail. The emphasis is on the first three or four generations descending from the immigrant, at which point one can pick up the thread to include their own lines. During the half-century of personal research, the author has made every effort to maintain a high level of scholarship. Consequently, the book is based on careful assembly, interpretation and evidence analysis. Numerous maps, portraits, and other illustrations are included.
