Description:

Lynn Lemieux feels trapped like a bee in a Mason jar. This is his second case and in 1957 is assigned to the post office in Baron, Maine. He is allotted a small room attached to the Postmaster's office. He witnesses an incident that involved the postmaster and his secretary in a romantic embrace. This encounter has him suspended for thirty days from no fault of his own. He is jubilant to be free of the confinement and pressure and now able to return home to visit his family and investments in Texas. He receives word that the ninety-eight acre farm he purchased while on his first assignment in Coltharp, Texas is surrounded by oil profiteers. While traveling back to Texas he's exhausted. Searching for a Holiday Inn in Memphis, Tennessee he is in an automobile accident. Lynn is confined to a local hospital and is in a deep coma for several days and he dreams, dreams, dreams. He is in stride with one of the best one-hundred sprinters in LSU history. He loses the race by one stride but his Uncle Jack gives him encouragement and states that he's the best in his book. After graduation from Louisiana State University, Lynn is accepted in the Post Office's Secrete Service (Postal Inspector). His first case assignment is to a Second Class Post Office in East Texas. He has a difficult task trying to solve a situation involving one or more of the postal employees. His station is in a 'gallery' built by postal specifications, above all employees surrounding the interior walls, to observe their operations and actions without their knowledge of his presents. Lynn likes this seclusion and intrigue feeling like Inspector Clouseau of the Italian police. At the stations provided for observance, there are unusual events that transpire that are bizarre, outrageous, and unbelievable. In his seclusion he is able to see and hear everything with the exception of the rest rooms, offices and lobby. Through Lynn's observation he seeks to glean information that will be beneficial to his case. Instead, there is an assortment of funny and ruthless stories from the employees. He later solves his case, and meets a beautiful young woman named Amber. Her father helps Lynn in solving his case. He is re-assigned to his second case in Baron, Maine away from his family in Louisiana and his girl friend in Texas. Lynn recovers from his automobile accident in Memphis and returns to Coltharp, Texas to help Mr. Johnston, who has had an accident and confined to a wheel chair. Amber and Lynn are reunited and get married. He decides to work in the furniture business and move out to the farm among the oil wells.
