Eliza Leslie (1787-1858), frequently referred to as Miss Leslie, was an American author of popular cookbooks during the nineteenth century. She gained popularity for her books on etiquette as well. For a time, she also edited an annual gift book called The Gift, which included contributions from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Parker Willis, Elizabeth F. Ellet, Lydia Sigourney, Charles Fenno Hoffman, and others. Amongst her other works are Seventy-Five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes and Sweetmeats (1829), Pencil Sketches (3 series 1833- 1837), Directions For Cookery, in its Various Branches (1840), Amelia; or, A Young Lady of Vicissitudes (1848), The Dennings and Their Beaux and Alina Derlay (1851), The Maid of Canal Street; and The Bloxhams (1851) and The Behaviour Book: A Manual for Ladies (1853).
