The book explores the complex of forces that determine the success of interactions - meetings. It is based on the study of videotapes and observations of thousands of meetings, invention and problem solving sessions, and meetings between intimate partners. The authors were identifying actions - words, tonals and non-verbals - that determine the effectiveness of the meeting. In addition, the authors use the latest information from brain research, and apply some of the findings of Quantum Physics to help clarify the issues in constructive relating. Using this data they were designing and testing procedures aimed at increasing the positive actions of the participants. As a result of many years of experiments, they have developed an understanding of the many ways we humans unconsciously behave in ways that are destructive to our purposes and keep us from using the gifts for creativity that each of us has. The book gives concrete answers to the questions: what actions hinder accomplishment? What actions invite collaboration, which undermine it? How can I increase my ability to get ideas and solve problems? How can I treat myself to maximize my effectiveness? How can I handle differences without annoying my partner? How can I create and maintain positive relationships with my colleagues and important others? How can I express a contrary opinion without getting into an argument?
