Kit Marshall can't wait to reconnect with her brother, Sebastian, while he's visiting Washington, DC. First up: a reception at the United States Botanic Garden, where the guest of honor is a foul-scented and infrequently blooming corpse flower. Not exactly riveting for Sebastian, a professional protestor, but as Kit is chief of staff for Congresswoman Maeve Dixon, her presence is required. So are her renowned sleuthing skills when the Architect of the Capitol is found strangled to death by a vine and Dixon wants Kit to find the killer.

Instead of playing tourist with Sebastian, Kit finds herself chasing clues deep into shadowy corners of the nation's capital while juggling the demands of her day job.
