Our At lantic and Lake coasts are now illumined by two hundred and fifty six principal lights, thirty floating lights, and one thousand buoys. A new edition of this work being necessarily called for, the author has undertaken, not only to meet this demand, but, in order to render a more acceptable Offering to the marine and commercial interests of his country, and to make the work more extensively useful to the mariner, he has sought and Obtained from the proper departments, official returns Of all the light-houses in the world, which in time will be added to this edition.
