D. Warner, since another than the author could more freely analyze the work and set forth its interest for the public nearly half a century after it first stirred the whole civilized world. Mr. Warner was asked when contributing his essay to The Atlantic Monthly to draw upon this Introduction for those facts which Mrs. Stowe could furnish.
