In about half an hour we went back, and the dog was dead, so we took him down and went to the house. The girl's mother came very near giving us a thrashing, but the father was to blame. He said he did not think we would do it, yet we should have the party. So everything was arranged for the party next night but in the morning the dog was back at the house ready for his breakfast. The old scoundrel had come back to life. It seemed as if everyone on the place was glad the dog came back. The old folks gave us our party, but we both agreed not to hang a dog that- could not be killed. But the same day we drowned a big hog too quick and easy to realize what we had done. The hog lot gate got open, and one of the hogs got out and we hemmed him up and caught him across the creek. He was a large hog and heavy to handle. We had to take him by the hind legs and jmsh him to the lot. The nearest way was through a hole of water, about knee deep; but we did not care for the water. So we pushed him in and shoved him across, his head under the water. When we got him to the opposite bank, we had all kinds of a time to pull him out, and when we did he was as dead as a hammer. We expected to get a scolding and dreaded to go to the house; but when we did,, and explained the matter, we were not blamed., while,, of course everyone hated it. I have not given all my little funny pranks, and while I had my fun,, I had some hardships, and if you will read the Pioneer History, you will learn what a frontier boy in Texas had to experience. By reading this book, you will learn a great deal that is profitable. CHAPTER VII. HISTORY OF PIONEER DAYS IN TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA By John A. Hart....
