The Drawdown 1970–1971
Description:
The Drawdown, 1970-1971 tells the story of how the U.S. Army executed a fighting withdrawal from Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. It examines the strain soldiers experienced from fighting an unpopular war that, for America at least, was gradually winding down. Included in the story are the incursions into Cambodia in 1970 and Laos in 1971, as well as many engagements inside South Vietnam. By December 1971 the United States still had 157,000 military personnel in South Vietnam, but only 12,000 of them were combat infantrymen. The United States would remain at war for more than a year, but the days of offensive ground operations by the U.S. Army had come to an end.
