This book is a chance to learn a little about some well-known historic events and it's a chance to learn a lot about some lesser-known ones. It's also an opportunity to decide if middle class jobs, 40 hour work weeks, factories that don't blow up and retirements that are still there when you retire aren't just so adorably yet irretrievably 20th century. This book is the story of a good dad and a good mom wanting to show their children a United States of America they could be proud to call home. It's a radio show stretching the limits of affordable technology to bring the voices of elevator mechanics, sanitation workers, train engineers, coal miners and so many other average American laborers to the ears of anyone who is eager to learn the true identities of those who built this country. And it's the summer vacation of some really lovable kids who after 8 or 9 hours driving through the desert or over mountains still had the energy to ask, "does this place have a pool," at literally every RV park.
