Color laminated hardcover, 11x8.5 horizontal format, 192 glossy pages, color images throughout."This book is intended by the Authors to present color images of high quality to illustrate some of the diesel locomotives owned by the Chicago & North Western Railway. "Full color coverage of a system as old and as large as the C&NW is impractical, if not impossible; our first consideration is that the quality of the color image be of high quality, to record the appearance of representative units over the time span when amateur color photography was technically feasible. Thus we have no images from the pre-War period, or even from the late 1940s. What we do offer here are memorable photographs by a number of amateur photographers attracted to the Chicago & North Western by its colorful locomotive roster, in both the literal and the figurative sense."The time span for the photography in this volume is not absolutely marked, as some units appear here for reasons of roster convenience or expediency, but in general, our time limits for this volume are about 1955 at the early end, and 1975 at the later end."We hope the reader will enjoy seeing the Chicago & North Western in its 'colorful' days, through good and bad times, as much as we have enjoyed the experience of bringing it to light."The Authors would like to thank Arthur H.
