Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Marlboro, Bayer and Rolaids net their fortunes keeping us going and going and going...until we drop. "From the beginning of creation, we're given the example of God-at-rest. Why? Was he tired from forming everything out of nothing? Did he need a break from divine demands? Did he take a day off from being God and let the earth chill-out after creation? I don't think so.... In fact, God rested after creation, because his work was complete. It was a done deal!... Biblical rest doesn't mean comfort and ease, nor idleness or irresponsibility. It doesn't necessarily require the cessation of activity, but bestows serenity and security even in the midst of strenuous activity. God's rest doesn't require the luxury of a settled life but rather the comfort of a secured soul."
