In the long-ago, faraway (and yet somehow right-next-door) kingdom of Dreams-upon-Waking, each subject is granted a great gift, and responsibility at birth: he, she, or even it may have one glorious, selfless, noble, inspired and inspiring (or perhaps downright selfish, mean-spirited and not-without-dire-consequences) wish come true. One wish per subject! And the wishes of several of Dreamland’s fascinating subjects – the foot-stamping Princess Elspeth; the great artificer, Tom the Toymaker, and his plain, pure-hearted daughter, Dogwood; Prince Aethelred, Tom’s masterpiece-among-toys; Dreams-upon-Waking’s shortsighted and homely King and Queen; and even the frog-green River Waking, itself – set a story in motion that will kindle the heart and set young minds thinking.
