Alexandre Sitnikov was born in 1945. He lives and works in Moscow. Sitnikov graduated from the Surikov Art Academy in 1972. Drawing his inspiration on a variety of sources, from Surrealism to Egyptian art, his paintings are brightly colored and heavily layered. Combining color with surreal symbolical imagery, the artist often has recurring subjects in his art his family, self-portraits, or composers Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke, as well as allegorical and mythological motifs. Sitnikov is the recipient of the National Award of Russia in Fine Arts and member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
