Jaguar Footprints

Poetry. Juan Sequeira was born in Granada, Nicaragua and came to the United States as a small child. Growing up in the barrio, he worked his way through college and became a physician with a general practice in Contra Costa County, California. JAGUAR FOOTPRINTS, recently published by Beatitude Press, is his second book of poetry. In his poems, Juan explores the sometimes cheerful, sometimes difficult, but always fascinating synthesis of Nicaraguan and United States culture. Juan's previous book, Marimba Dreams, was published in 1999 by Mother's Hen Press. Juan dedicates JAGUAR FOOTPRINTS to his small son, Juan Carlos. But it could as easily be dedicated to the small child in each of us. Filled with wonder at the natural world, Juan Sequeira's poetry is an affirmation of the power of the human spirit to triumph over adversity, disappointment, and human indifference and retain a hopeful optimism for the future.
