Ghunda's Bermuda Holiday, a True Story
Description:
This is a true story, written in rhyme and illustrated by the author to entertain her own young children. She has included for parents a factual account of the event that the Royal Gazette headlined "Operation Elephant." In 1954, a ship carrying Ghunda, a three year old elephant from India to the United States to join a circus, was forced to stop in Bermuda to replace a damaged propeller. The owner, worried about the delay, arranged to fly Ghunda to New York on Pan American Airlines. The elephant was led to the plane, but refused to board. What transpired was a comic scene as six men pushed and shoved the bellowing stubborn animal, while passangers complained and local crowds cheered.
