Aindreas: The Scribe 1865

From the Galt House fire early on a January morning in 1865 until the day the Civil War ends, twenty-three-year old Aindreas Rivers is haunted by memories of the Battle of Perryville. His ambition and idealism are at odds with the menial tasks of writing about social events and funerals at a newspaper with southern sympathies. Captivated by both the striking and dangerous Lorelei Sharpe, a minister’s daughter, and the wondrous and healing Sarah White with whom a shared life is untenable, Aindreas suffers personal defeat and pain. In the last month of the war, beginning with the execution of the marauder, Sue Mundy, Aindreas’ sense of order collapses. He cannot hold on to those he most loves, commits violence against his own brother, loses his job, and narrowly escapes arrest and criminal charges. His lack of commitment had blinded him, and he resolves to find his vision again, no matter how far and how long his odyssey might take him.
