In this novel, Joanne Cruse, a successful manufacturing plant safety director, senses a real battle brewing at work and finds herself in a plight that causes her pain and emotional upheaval as she struggle to be a good mother and wife, find a way to keep people working safely on the job, and avoid being fired by the tough plant manager, Pillar the Killer. Joanne wants to build on the success she s had with her old-school behavior-based safety programs at work. But she finds the only way to do that is to spearhead changing her entire work culture to support behavioral interventions to promote safety. It s difficult, like swimming upstream, and requires not only competence and commitment, but personal courage and true compassion.
