Biographical directory of flag rank Soviet & Russian naval officers, 1917-1996

This biographic directory was compiled to fill a very distinct void. Until very recently, few biographies of Russian naval officers were printed except in cases of death to recount the exploits of World War II heroes. Routine transfers of flag officers did not appear in the Russian press. Flag officers in sensitive positions were seldom if ever mentioned. Sometimes an officer would be mentioned when he was in a lower position such as an executive officer of a ship & his name might not be seen again in print until he was an Admiral. Since the Berlin Wall went down, the Russian press now carries some biographical information & even officers receiving promotions & decorations are mentioned. This has been helpful. This book also contains a short history of the Russian Navy in order for the reader to have a better understanding of the officers I describe. However, try as I might, there are still many Russian officers of flag rank I am unaware of. This reference book is a start &, as far as I am aware, the only such attempt in English to produce such a reference work.
