Talking Sense at Century's End

As we start a new century, are we repeating some of the major policy mistakes of the last one? This book attempts to answer that question. It is a compilation of seventy sparkling and incisive articles, essays, and speeches written and delivered over the past five years. The subjects range from the future of Social Security to the persistent concerns about Russia, Iran, and Iraq. There also are lighter moments-a comparison, for example, of President Clinton with the three Presidents of the 1920's and a look at Newt Gingrich's ability to butcher the English language. So where are we headed? To answer that, author Ed Wade suggests, we first must identify where we are and where we want to go. Then we must be prepared to work, and even to fight if necessary, for the objectives we have set for ourselves.
