Returning...Duski's Story

In 1977, three months after my teenaged son Jody's suicide, when I wasn't sure I could go on living, a scruffy little dog came into my life and changed it. It was the saddest time in my life, and yet she made me smile and gave me hope. We named the dog Duski, because of the darkness of her color and my mood. She became my constant companion, bringing me what I needed most during that time: joy, and a certainly healing. Where did she come from? Why did she seem instantly at home with our family and in the farm house where I'd lived since first married, where I'd raised my children, where Jody and his father had both died? The bond I formed with Duski became lasting and it has had a strong influence on my thinking about life and death- both the physical state that is apparent and the spiritual one that is not.
